Hi, I’m back a year later w/ the same stress & another long post. Recap: potential exposure 9/25/20 (unprotected penetrative sex) w/ genital symptoms and negative HSV 1&2 swab test. Negative HSV-2 IGG at 6 weeks post exposure & equivocal score (1.09) HSV-2 IGG at 17 weeks.
New update-
1/14/21: protected sex once w/ same partner. On 2/3/21, we didn’t have penetrative sex but I did straddle him on couch, both naked, so there was some skin to skin contact but not much as he was playing w/ my clit so my butt was raised a bit. On 4/14/21, attempted to have protected sex but my body rejected him as it wouldn’t go in & we stopped.
Had 3rd HSV 1&2 IGG on 4/27/21 and results were HSV 1: 41.30 & HSV2: 0.95. Lower equivocal gave me more confidence that perhaps I didn’t have HSV-2. On 05/26/21, had protected sex 1 last time w/ same partner. That’s been last sexual encounter to date. I found out he never did get a HSV IGG so his actual status remains unknown.
On 10/26/21, had routine STD testing and requested HSV 1 & 2 IGG again. Well my fear came true, HSV 2 IGG came back positive at 1.41 while HSV 1 was 48.0. I was sad but thanks to you, I knew I needed confirmatory testing w/ a low positive. Planned Parenthood (Quest Diagnostics) had been used for all testing but was told they didn’t run confirmatory testing.
I ordered the wb kit from UW in Nov. I asked my new pcp to fill out lab form but he said no claiming he was unfamiliar w/ a herpes western blot & referred me to an OBGYN & told me to try w/ them. He ordered another HSV 1&2 IGG w/ Labcorp. Blood draw was 12/15/21. HSV 1 value was 44.0 & to my devastation, HSV 2 read positive again at 1.47 w/ positive supplemental test.
Went to get copy of results & ran into my dr. After I said I was pursuing w/ the blot, he seemed annoyed & looked me dead in my eyes & said “There is no western blot for herpes, that only exists for syphilis. You have herpes.” Already emotional & not wanting to argue, I left…
