Yes, I had a swab test come back positive for hsv1 in my lower eyelid about 10 yrs ago. Soon after that i went on suppressive therapy (acyclovir 400mg twice a day).
Even though I’ve lived with this for as far back as i can remember, I’ve developed bad anxiety about autoinoculation and spreading it to my husband. So i never touch my lips or my eyes unless it’s with soap and even then I’m scared. For many years, i wouldn’t touch my face at all. After i wash my face, i thoroughly wash my hands again before touching anything else. I’m so afraid of the virus shedding without me knowing.
My husband has no concerns of contracting it but if i suspect anything at all coming i don’t kiss him or give him oral sex. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had it already but didn’t display symptoms. Unfortunately, he has no interest in getting tested… he just doesn’t care.
So a few more questions:
– should i be concerned at all about shedding and autoinoculation since I’ve had it for 40yrs?
– of course, i wouldn’t kiss or do anything if i had an actual sore but if my husband is so apathetic about it, do i need to be worried about viral shedding and passing it on to him? I’m curious what are the chances i would give it to him with no store present?
– if the virus hasn’t presented on my eyeball but just in the skin around my eye, is it safe to say it’s unlikely to ever affect my eyeball? With or without suppressive therapy?
– should women be concerned about makeup brushes spreading the virus around other parts of their face? Do i need to throw out my chapstick if i get a cold sore but I’m the only one who ever uses it?
Thank you so much for your time!!!
