You most likely truly have HSV 1 infection, the cause of cold sores. This infection could also be genital. If you have not had a cold sore ever in your life, then we can’t know where your infection is, but statistically, it is more likely to be oral. Half the population has HSV 1 infection so it is very common. If you don’t have a cold sore, it is fine to kiss family members as usual.
You should know that if you do have oral infection, you could give this to someone who doesn’t already have HSV 1 by giving them oral sex and doing deep passionate kissing.
