It is not difficult to pinpoint exposure if it is documented when a person last had intercourse. For example, when I order western blots, I insist that people wait at least 12 weeks after a last sexual experience to get the blot done.
Some people chose to test sooner and then retest at 12 weeks for greatest accuracy.
