1 – I never had herpes symptoms, but I have tested IgG twice in the space of 3 days as follows
HSV1 IgG: first 0.08, then 0.068
HSV2 IgG: first 2.65, then 2.56
same test, same lab. Am I one of those low positives that a Western blot will likely show as negative? Or are two positives, even if low, enough to confirm me as positive?
these could both be false positives, yes
2 – How can I get a Western blot test done in England?
You would need to have a video conference with me or have your own provider work with you on this, then identify a location to have your blood drawn, then ship it to the US
Then:
I met this girl once in May. Kissing, protected vaginal sex, no oral. The flirt has developed over distance (we live in two different countries in Europe) and we are planning to meet next weekend. But she has had her first and primary genital outbreak in the last few days of October (was on remission as of Nov 4 when she was diagnosed and started taking antivirals).
She doesn’t have visible signs at the moment.
The oubreak was genital only.
3 – She was swab-tested and resulted positive to both 1 and 2. Is that even possible?
There is some misunderstanding there
4 – Should she try to see whether the outbreak was due to 1 or 2 by testing IgG and/or IgM? I imagine the type that caused the outbreak would have very high values by now?
Maybe not – too soon for this if a true primary – IgM useless.
She plans to be on antivirals when we meet.
I have an availability of acyclovir 400mg (15 tablets) which I plan on using too when we meet.
I’m not sure why you would be doing that?
4 – Given the above, what is the transmission risk for protected vaginal and anal sex with us both being on antivirals?
We don’t have that data, but the risk of transmission is highest in the first 6 months of being infected. so are you thinking that she newly infected you or you may have infected her? I’m still confused.
5 – What is the transmission risk of kissing?
It depends on if she HSV 1 orally or not – and we don’t have a number
6 – What is the transmission risk of her performing unprotected oral sex on me (fellatio), given that her outbreak wasn’t oral?
Also don’t have an answer
7 – Could those instant test kits that use a swab or urine give us more information the moment we meet? E.g., if they are positive is the outbreak still on and should we abstain completely?
I don’t think that is reliable answer that you can count on.
