What do you think the chances are that I’ve been carrying HSV2 asymptomatically and infected her with it orally, or was it most likely just a recurrence of her oral hsv1?
I think it is very unlikely that you have HSV 2 asymptomatically and very unlikely that you transmitted to her. She has a history of recurrent cold sores – this is likely just that.
I’ve also read that having HSV1 orally offers some residence to a oral HSV2 infection because of the similarities in antibodies – can you confirm this?
That’s a maybe – we just don’t know
If it was a new HSV2 infection orally would you expect the symptoms to be more severe than what a typical hsv1 recurrence would be? Prodrome too?
no, they would be the same as a cold sore. HSV 2 really doesn’t like the mouth at all and rarely shows up there or recurs there.
