I don’t know what confirmatory test will be done next for you. STD check in the past has used immunoblot which is very specifically recommended against by the Center for disease control for low positive confirmations. LabCorp uses a supplemental test that, when negative, we feel pretty clearly represents a true negative. Quest does something called inhibition assay which we are less comfortable with if it’s positive. We are also uncomfortable with the LabCorp supplemental positive. We have seen false positives on both of these tests as compared to the gold standard western blot.
You could move directly to the western blot for confirmation or denial of your positive HSV-2 result. That’s personally what I would do but not everyone has enough money to do that and sometimes it can be challenging to find a lab nearby to draw the blood required. But whatever you decide to do do not except this positive test result. There are high levels of false positives on the IgG tests that are routinely available.
