Condoms reduce transmission from men to women by 96% so they are incredibly effective. The likelihood that you would get herpes from one broken condom is low and also low from a single episode of unprotected intercourse and then you get a nine on an IgG test. I just don’t think that fits very well. If you were my patient I would recommend a western blot. I think the likelihood of you being infected with HSV to give her this particular sexual history is low and I would recommend a western blot because it doesn’t fit very well. You can work with your own provider to get this test done but you need to order the kit from the University of Washington at 206-685-6066. If your provider will not work with you to get this test I would be happy to do that for you.
