The PCR blood test should never have been done.
The test should certainly be able to sort out herpes simplex from shingles.
The problem with taking an antibody test so close to a new infection is that you may not have had an opportunity to make antibody quite that soon.
If your boyfriend has had cold sores in the past, he could have given you HSV 1 from giving you oral sex, if he did. Has your boyfriend been tested for HSV 2?
