The CDC does see HSV as a problem! But because the tests are so inaccurate, they advise against using them. The CDC, FDA and NIH are all in favor of better testing and are working toward that. No one requires getting a western blot. It is totally up to the individual. Because we know that the IgG test misses 30% of HSV 1 and 8% of HSV 2, some people take the extra step of getting a western blot for themselves.
