We do have some hard data. The four days a year after two years of infection is correct. There is not data that suggests it is “weakened”.
When the virus is shedding, it can be transmitted.
Condoms also reduce transmission. Daily antiviral medication COULD also reduce transmission but we have no data about that for genital HSV 1.
