I’m going to get tested by a blood test again and if it comes out with a low IgG, I might go for the Western Blot. I’m only hesitant about the Blot because it’s expensive and seems like a hassle.
One more question:
What is the big deal about oral HSV-1? Do I have to disclose before kissing someone? I asked 8 of my friends if they had cold sores and 7 of them said yes. They didn’t know it was herpes and have never disclosed it. I asked my girlfriend and she said she doesn’t have it but it’s not a big deal. I haven’t been to a doctor about this, but it seems MDs and NPs also say disclosure is not necessary. Then I read the latest NIH report that said 50%-80% of the population has this, but many are asymptomatic and/or ignorant about it.
Given this information, I feel disclosing it just adds to the undeserved stigma by making it seem like a big deal. What do you think?
