About half the population between 14 and 49 in the US has HSV 1 so this is a very common thing.
The main concern that I have about HSV 1 is if someone has this orally and they give oral sex to someone who is HSV 1, it can then be genital HSV 1 infection. This recurs infrequently but can be a issue for childbearing, those who are immunosuppressed, etc. I think this should be disclosed in a meaningful relationship for sure. More casual relationships may not require disclosure for HSV 1 with an unknown location.
