Would retesting or Western blot be the only way to know if I actually have HSV2? It seems like it could be a false positive since swab was HSV1. I didn’t have an outbreak in 12 years.
This is likely a false positive for HSV 2 and yes, the blot is the way to find out.
If a partner already has OHSV1, can they contract GHSV1 or are they protected?
Genital infection in that person is extremely unlikely
How do people with GHSV1 handle disclosing their status? Is there any helpful educational information to share about the low risk?
I think it is appropriate to say that you have the cold sore virus and explain to a regular partner the quiet nature of HSV 1 genital infection. The herpes handbook on our website may be useful for this discussion.

If your partner is very concerned, they could do the blot. But you are shedding so infrequently at this point, it is probably not necessary
