1) Ok so regarding hand herpes, I get these white mini blister looking bumps and sometimes burning red dots. My fingers are very tingly, forearms get nerve itching a lot and so on. I’ve seen some photos on reddit of people posting their whitlow and its usually small white dots on a red area. I’d say mine are usually small white bumps or mini blisters popping up that dont have red areas around them. I’ve seen people getting similar on things on reddit asking if that can be whitlow also.
Anyway one thing I wonder is for viral shedding studies of whitlow. Has there ever been one? Is HSV1 whitlow shedding more than HSV2 whitlow? Can whitlow shed without symptoms or are the fingers way too thick for that?
There have been no studies of viral shedding for whitlow because the fingers of the hand is covered with thicker skin and the virus can’t get out like it can from very skin genital skin.
2) I’m having trouble founding out if oral HSV2 is anything to be concerned of at all AKA how often it is shedding in the mouth. The issue is that the study popping out when googling is from 2004 and uses some viral culture method or something so it’s not a legit PCR study but this study shows 0.06% shedding which would obviously be way to low to be relevant. But how much is Oral HSV2 shedding in PCR shedding tests? I’ve heard the number is around 1% but can’t find any study on it.
We know that oral HSV 2 is rare and so is shedding. The PCR is 3-4 times more sensitive than culture so you can do the math
