I have an appt with you next week and hope to get the WB blood draw the same day so that I can ship it that day as well. My primary doctor didn’t want to help me after I received the kit because she said the testing she’s done says im negative. I haven’t been able to let this go unfortunately. In preparation for the blood draw do I need to be fasting? Can I take my medication that day? I take omeprazole, HCTZ and Carvedilol. Thanks.

Thanks Terri. If this turns out to be something I can’t let go of I’ll talk to my husband about both of us getting the WB test. Last question I read online that melatonin can interfere with the IGG is that true? I take it as a sleep aid and I’m curious if that true.

Yes, he did. He tested 1 month post exposure and 8 months post exposure both times negative. He doesn’t know this woman’s status and no way to know.

    Hi Terri.

I believe I might have a question left if not let me know and I’ll renew. I tried to search the forum for an answer but no luck. I’m just curious if in your experience you’ve seen a lot of people who are truly positive have a low IGG number? I guess what I’m wondering is if someone was truly infected wouldn’t their IGG value be higher than 3.5 for HSV2?

    Hi Terri.

Don’t need a response just wanted to say thank you again. I got the second IGG herpeselect results and my IGG has gone down 1.71 and the test went to inhibition again but that wasn’t performed because when they retested the sample it was negative again. I’m letting this one go and moving on confidently that I don’t have HSV2 since my spouse is negative also. Moving forward I will decline IGG tests unless I have a reason to believe I need it. Thank you for everything you do and for this wealth of knowledge.

Sorry the site is a bit confusing. I paid $40 just now hopefully that covers the extra posts if it doesn’t let me know and I’ll pay again. I don’t have anymore questions, but definitely want to pay you for your time.

I never thought I’d need another IGG unless I suspected cheating or something but last week I went to my doctor for something unrelated and the nurse practitioner who saw me was reviewing my recent labs the IGG and my iron check and she insisted I needed to retest because the quest lab thing said retest in 2-3 weeks. I should have advocated for myself a little better and told her NO, but this lady was adamant. I should have known better cause she even suggested having an IGM dije which I said absolutely NOT! Needless to say I am now waiting for the results of that IGG, but I emailed my regular doctor who wasn’t in that day and she said I had no reason to test again that message about testing again is generic and she apologized for the NP. Absolutely sucks because now I’m stressed out all over again. I have NO symptoms I haven’t even had sex since June but if there’s any issues with this test I’ll reach out to you for a WB. I wish more medical professional were better informed on herpes. Thank you for this forum it’s really taught me so much.

Thank you, Terri. I’m going to let this go and work to put it behind me as it’s caused me a lot of stress. I did read that once you test positive I might continue to test this way in the future. So just to save myself the headache I’ll refrain from IGG’s and only test if I see some symptoms pop up that can be swabbed. Again, thank you.

    I’ve renewed-hopefully I’ve done it correctly.

Mainly I just want to know if I can trust my last test even though it was at 6 weeks since the last time my spouse and I were together.

    Thank you.

If you can answer this one if I’m out of questions no worries. In your research have you seen people who had previously tested negative suddenly test positive erroneously possibly due to this protein in the blood? Just curious since I had previously in prior years tested negative.

Thank you Terri. Last question and I will let this go like you recommend. It’s really been taking a toll on me.

So in this situation since my spouse and I have been together for a long time it’s okay that I tested negative at 6 weeks I can trust that?

Terri I am so sorry! I spoke to my doctor again because of this note I read on my lab report it says “HSV2 IGG screening assay was repeated at quest diagnostics infectious disease and the result was negative; thus the inhibition results could not be determined” I asked my doctor if this still means negative and she said yes. That the IGG test was ran again by a different department and it was negative so they didn’t bother to do the inhibition because you need a positive to do the inhibition. It said unless early infection is detected which I don’t believe to be the case I’ve had the same partner for over 3 years.

Is my doctors explanation correct? What typically causes labs to think something is positive then come back and say oops actually it’s not?

Hi Terri. Now that I have my inhibition results can I modify my questions. I will purchase more if needed.

    1. Do any of the symptoms described above sound herpatic? I would like to add that I take my temperature daily due to COVID and have never displayed a fever or a low grade fever.

    2. My doctor told me to accept the negative inhibition and assume it was a false positive due to the high HSV1 antibody account. She did not recommend retesting do you agree with this?

    3. Let’s assume my partner didn’t test negative since these tests can miss infections. I tested at 6 weeks since the last time we had sex. I know that was before the recommended time frame, but can I trust these inhibition results that came back negative at 6 weeks from quest diagnostics? Online their FAQ said their test is good at detecting early infections. Since I’ve been sleeping with the same man for the last 3 plus years? Prior to this sexual encounter we had not had sex in a while. I guess I’m asking this because If I’ve been sleeping with the same man for this long what are the odds that he would infect me if he had it during the last sex act? I would assume he probably would have transmitted prior to this?

I’m sorry for this long post I have terrible anxiety and zero coping skills and I’m all over the place. I’m also scared to retest.

    Thank you.

Update: my IGG inhibition IA from quest on that 2.29 IGG came back negative. It said unless this is an early infection then the original IGG was a false positive. I don’t think it’s an early infection as I’ve had the same partner forever.

I have one other question if I need to purchase additional please let me know and I will do so. Waiting for the results of my inhibition is killing me. Does this sound like it could have been an outbreak? On 7/17 4 days after my period ended I felt irritation around the opening of my vagina. This happens often so I messaged my GYN she said it could be hormonal. I used a boric acid suppository that night and the next day I woke up feeling fine no longer irritated. I did look with a mirror and never saw redness or any bumps. That same night my throat felt scratchy but next day I felt fine. 7/21 my gyn did a pelvic exam because I had started this groin pain and brown discharge. She swabbed for yeast, BV and did a urine culture. Everything was negative and she said my pelvic exam was normal so she said the discharge was more than likely breakthrough bleeding which she said is common with low dose BCP. I spotted for about 2 weeks and then my period came. Throughout this time I had the left groin pain but my gyn examined me again and said it was chafing. This all happened a little after 3 weeks since the last time I had sex. Could this have been an outbreak? Could my gyn have missed it during the pelvic exam?

If my inhibition results come back positive at this point should I just accept that I have HSV2?

I did reach out to the other person I’ve been with and asked if they had it they said they didn’t think so because they’ve never had any symptoms. I explained what is going on and they said they will get tested but I have no faith that they will.

Terri I’m sorry for all the questions I meant to ask this in the above post. At 5.5 weeks post exposure would my IGG be around what it is now or is it typically a little higher? I know that having HSV1 delays it a bit.

My repeat last with quest was 2.29 not a good sign that it’s going up? Would you still recommend the blot?

I purchased additional questions not sure if I needed to.

My last encounter was 6/29 when can I safely take the blot test?

I’ve tested before 2017 HSV1 47.2 and in 2018 HSV1 52 with labcorp. This is the first time I’ve used quest and had HSV1 44.9 and HSV2 2.09 this was my very first time getting a positive for 2. Does the decrease in the HSV1 this year mean anything? Does me having a high HSV1 increase the likelihood that my HSV2 is a false positive? By what percentage would you say?

The only other “symptom” I can think of is pubic bone pain does that happen with herpes? I got this pain right after cycling but now I’m second guessing everything.

Previously I posted that the very next day after having sex I had left body pain like if I had a pulled muscle would that possibly have been the start of this infection? Or is one day too soon typically? The pain went away with heat and Tylenol.

My previous test were always with labcorp. This new positive was with quest. I am still waiting for the repeat results. My spouse received his today and he is negative.

What is the probability that my HSV1 positive is skewing the HSV2 results? My HSV1 latest antibody was 44.9.

Does this sound like an outbreak? I had sex 6/29 very next day I had pain like a pulled muscle on my left side. Pain went away the same day after applying heat and taking Tylenol. 3 days later I had an infected hair follicle pop up on the Mons pubis but 2 doctors confirmed that’s what it was. I’m concerned that this muscular pain popped up right after having sex.

Sorry I forgot to add the test results.

    June 2018 me: HSV1 52 and HSV2 <0.91

    February 2020 spouse: HSV1 29.90 and HSV 2 <0.90

My recent HSV2 IGG without reflex: 2.09

Cont: I had one bump on my labia February 2019 it hurt only when pressed in certain directions. I found a hair in it and after I pulled it out the bump which was skin colored and very small got a white head then went away the next day after pulling the hair. Lasted a total of 5 days. I had the gyn look at the area but she said a herpes single bump wouldn’t have been white and wouldn’t have gone away that soon. July 2020 I had another skin colored small bump not painful and as soon as I pulled the hair in it out it vanished. Never had any other bumps. On occasion I’ve had mild itching but I have very sensitive skin pelvic exams always come back normal when I’ve felt this and as soon as I use a boric acid suppository the itching clears up within hours. My last sexual encounter with my spouse was 6/29 it had been a while and I felt maybe a small tear after due to dryness but it went away almost immediately. My partner had a hemorrhoid last week in January 2020 at the time he went to the urgent care asked if it could be herpes was told no and referred to a surgeon. Best surgeon in town also said it wasn’t herpes and surgically removed the hemorrhoid he was feeling better within an few days after the surgery. Aside from that he’s never had any symptoms, bumps or sores. I know now that in February he tested too soon. He has retested and awaiting his results. My spouse and I both retested today.

Can my test be a false positive what are the chances?

Is it possible that this groin pain is herpes related? It’s now going on over 3 weeks of pain but nothing else.

With the symptoms I’ve described does it sound like a herpes infection?

Does having HSV1 increase the chances of receiving a false positive for HSV2?

If my partners test come back positive as well is it time to just accept it and move on? It’s now been 7 months since his last encounter with the other woman.
