BettyParticipant
I never had a culture test done. My doctor thought the rash did not look like herpes. But it hurt, itched, and caused me to have strong genital biting sensations. It had changed in appearance from white bumps on a hyper red base to white streaks on a hyper red base. I also got some long slashes like cuts in my vaginal skin several months later. The person who could have infected me has genital type one. Unfortunately my doctor was not up to date with herpes info and never took a culture. She had diagnosed me as having herpes based on IgM results. Two years later, she retracted her statement and said she was wrong.
She was unaware that people could have herpes despite negative blood tests, that the IgMs are useless, and that she should have taken cultures when I had rashes and broken skin. She is overall a good gynecologist but was behind in her understanding of diagnosing herpes.
BettyParticipantI had negative results for over two years. It has been a year and a half since I was last tested by Western Blot. My doc is having my blood drawn again for testing I have not had anything that a doctor would culture. A few years ago I had white bumps on a hyper red irritated spot on my genitalia.,Two days later when I saw my doc she just saw a hyper red spot with a white streak and said it was not herpes until she saw the IgM a few days later. She had my blood tested a few times. The typing blood tests were always clearly negative. Even the western blot taken after 28 months from initial symptoms was negative. The problem had been that for two years a doctor said I had it and then retracted her statement. She never took a culture. A year after initial symptoms, the rash returned. There were white bumps without the hyper red skin but I did not know I should have had a culture done. My doc who was a gynecologist said she did not know that a person could have negative blood work but a positive culture. In the meanwhile, I developed full body parensthesia. It is a mystery illness. Can you tell me if your nine patients had type one or type two and if they developed other unusual symptoms?
BettyParticipantI had no sexual contact 2.5 years before I took the Western a Blot. I had not contact after the test. That even includes no kissing. I am discovering that Valtrex helps 90% of the time within an hour of taking it. Yes it helped me feel normal. But yesterday it did not help. I learned from reading that Valtrex helps with cankers sores but no one is clear as for the reason. The docs prescribing it know that cankers are not caused by HSV. I will pay again and write if I get an update. Yes it was igM and after a more than a year my doc realized she should not have used those results for diagnosing me? My new doc says she thinks I have a virus caught during childhood such as Epstein Barr. If necessary I will ask you to retest me for WB but for now, I will go through testing for HSV and other types of herpetic infections. Thank you so very much. I was not in a hurry for a response by the way. A few days would not have changed a thing. So no need to apologize. Thank you.
BettyParticipantCould you not answer my posts and remove them? I will write back if necessary after my doctor orders and gets back her tests results. Thank you.
BettyParticipantI have an update. The chronic facial rash and split lip could have been caused by a preservative in a facial product. I just read that it causes rashes. I started seeing a new doctor who believes I have a herpetic type infection that may not be HSV 1 or 2 and may date back to childhood (Epstein Barr for example). The sore on my lip that my dermatologist said was an allergic reaction started as a split lip. The next day it was sort of like a canker sore. The next day it was completely gone without a mark. The next day my lip split again. Then next day my dermatologist said it was caused by an allergy. The next day it was gone. I am going to wait to get tested again through typing antibody and then post again. Until recent I had not taken Valtrex for a couple of years. Even though the Valtrex helped, I just learned it has recently been prescribed by docs for canker sores that are non-herpetic. So complicated. You may not have a comment at this point. I understand.
