I flew to Seattle and did BOTH tests directly at UW (once in January 2015 and once in March 2015).

Yes, I haven’t had sex since 2012.

Are you still able to have the two test evaluated next to each other? If I really need to, I don’t mind doing a third Western Blot through you guys. I also participated in the “Indeterminate Results” study. Can you use the blood from there? Let me know! Thanks, Terri.

Hi Terri,

I just received my second set of HSWB results, and the report says “Positive for antibody to HSV-1 by Western Blot. Negative for antibody to HSV-2. Evidence of past infection with HSV-1.” This is really confusing to me 🙁

Please see below for my timeline:

– 01/19/12: The last time I had sexual activity with someone
– 02/02/12: Abnormal symptoms in genital area (please refer to paragraph 1 from first post)
– 04/11/13: HSV2 IGG AB (Results: 1.63), HSV1 IGG (Results: NEG)
– 01/30/14: HSV2 IGG AB (Results: 1.80), HSV1 IGG (Results: NEG)
– 01/26/15: HSWB (Results: Low Level Antibody detected by Western Blot assay. Indeterminate of HSV. No antibody to HSV1 detected. Atypical reactivity was noted against proteins on the HSV 2 Western Blot.)
-03/30/15: HSWB (Results: Positive for antibody to HSV-1 by Western Blot. Negative for antibody to HSV-2. Evidence of past infection with HSV-1.)

Can you clarify any of this? I still don’t know what to tell my current partner.

If my second Western Blot comes back indeterminate, how can I contact you regarding that e-mail indicating that it is extremely unlikely I am infected with HSV 2?

Terri, I would greatly appreciate that. I plan on flying to Seattle to get it done again (it’s a lot easier for me to do that then do deal with the kit, haha). You have been so helpful to me. I am tearing up as I am writing this message. You have helped me stabilize my emotions. I will let you know when I have gotten my second Western Blot. Thank you, again.

That is true. I haven’t had any contacts since 2012. I guess I’m just paranoid that the first Western Blot was not accurate (i.e. misread). It’s so hard to get a confirmation of whether I have HSV2 or not. I really like the guy I am dating right now, but I’m scared that all this unclarity will scare him away. He asked to see my latest STD Panel test results, which will show my positive HSV2 IGG results. I am scared.

I’m not sure if you read it wrong, but I got my first Western Blot done in January 26th of this year (2015), so I’ve only waited one month so far. Do you think I should wait a little longer to do a second test? How much longer?

Hi Terri, I have a few more questions for you, so I renewed my subscription.

1. Since I had my Western Blot done on 1/26/2015, when should I get another Western Blot? In one month? In two months? What is the minimum amount of time I should wait before getting a second Western Blot?

2. Is Quest Labs the same as Quest Diagnostics? Does Quest Labs send the blood sample directly to University of Washington for testing? How does it work if I want to do it locally (California)? I can always travel to Seattle, and do it directly at outpatient blood draw.

3. Would it be a good idea to ask my physician for some antiviral medication (i.e. Acyclovir), just in case I want to engage in any sexual activities?

Thanks for the response. I will try to get another Western Blot done in 6 months. Also, I will contact Rene soon.

Should I worry about the symptoms I described from February 2012? After reading your response, I keep telling myself I’m in the clear, but I’m worried the incident in February 2012 is telling me otherwise. I met a guy I really like, and I’m not sure what to tell him. I’m really afraid of being rejected.
